Diabetes does not just affect the blood sugar level, it also impacts the physical body for most diabetic patients. Diabetic neuropathy is a result of chronic diabetes that impacts the nerve responses in patients. This results in a loss of sensation in the foot or leg, and in some cases the back and neck too. Patients experience a reduced sensation or numbness in their feet, which starts traveling up their leg. Any injury or malfunction in the foot goes unnoticed and can become a bigger problem.

Some patients also experience diabetic autonomic neuropathy in which the blood vessels are impacted and patients experience blacking out, increased heart rate and dizziness. At Columbus Spine Care, we help patients deal with both diabetes and its resultant physical discomfort.
